Whilst planning a road trip from Madrid to Soto Grande with my husband and best friend, we were looking for quaint, culturally rich towns to visit to break up our journey. We settled on Cordoba and Frigiliana.

I’d never heard of Frigiliana before planning the trip, but so pleased my research led me to this small, white-washed hidden gem of a village in Southern Spain’s Andalucía region. Frigiliana undoubtedly has my vote for top 5 prettiest villages on the planet with its undertones of Moorish architecture making every angle so picturesque and insta-worthy. Whilst there aren’t long lists of things to do in Frigiliana, there is so much to be appreciated. We spent one day in Frigiliana, and here are my three favourite things to do whilst there:

1.    Self-guided Photography Tour: The contrast of the doors boasting every shade of blue against the whitewashed walls adorned with bougainvillea trees make for the best photo ops. Not to mention the village is blessed with countless viewpoints that can be discovered by wandering aimlessly through the beautiful cobbled stone pathways, with barely a soul in sight.  Ensure your devices are all fully charged, ditch the map, and wander aimlessly for hours searching for the prettiest corners and the cultural highlights.

2.    Lunch with a view: We had a fantastic long lunch at the “El Jardin” restaurant. We sipped local beer and perfectly chilled aperol spritzers whilst soaking in the panoramic views of Frigiliana, the coast and surrounding mountains, and the very relaxed atmosphere. The menu was Mediterranean and utlised locally sourced ingredients. We enjoyed a variety of tapas, which was all foodie approved:

·         Grilled chorizo, Kalamata humus, aubergine chutney

·         Courgette and onion fritters, raita, sweet chili sauce

·         Falafel, mango chutney, tahini, humus and pickled chili

·         Chickpea and lentil dahl, fried bread, raita, mango chutney

3.    Shop for artisan crafts: It sounds like such an odd thing to do in such a small village, which has so much else to offer. However, the pathway through the middle of village, and the many side streets have plenty of small shops that are filled with artisan crafts, including a wide variety of impressive ceramics, that must be explored carefully.

We had a magical day in Frigiliana and I hope you enjoy your time there as much as we did!
